2014 Nationals – Dave Simon

On behalf of the Cal 25 Detroit Fleet it is with sincere appreciation that we commend and thank Tyson Connelly and the entire Port Huron Yacht Club team on a spectacularly run regatta.  Everything from the on-water race management in challenging conditions (good racing every day despite light air and fog) to the gracious dockage and amenity arrangements was top-notch.  The bar was massive fun on the cheap, the food was hearty, the music was excellent, daily mug awards were appreciated, and the presentation of engraved Bulova watches to the winners added some special prestige to our venerable class.  A++ all around.

Congratulations to Adam Hollerbach and Erik Ryan and their “Target Practice” crew (Adam, Erik, Nathan Hollerbach, Brad Terpstra, and RJ Wolney) on a well-earned victory.  Coming on top of their BOD win, they have demonstrated impressive consistency.  It was great to see the babies in the victory photos (their babies, not the crew;)) so it looks like our fleet is in good hands for another half century or so.

Congratulations as well to the five boats who took bullets amongst the six races:  “holmebrew“, “Draco“, “Never Alone” (twice), “Obscured by Clouds“, and “Patriot“.   NASCAR would love to have racing this close.  It should also be noted that once again the judges had nothing to do all weekend – kudos to all who took a couple of spins when they had to for doing their part to keep our great class spirit moving forward.

Thanks,

Dave
