2015 Nationals — Felix Basadre

Congratulations to One Time! They won the 2015 Cal25 Nationals in convincing fashion. Six out of seven bullets, what else can you say, very impressive. However, they did have to earn it. The competition was solid and everyone came to race. We had two very different days, Saturday was a typical Long Beach sea breeze 14-16 knots and Sunday was very funky with 5-7 knots. One Time got out to a quick lead with the first 3 bullets and Tiburon got the last race to make it interesting going into Sunday. After Saturday’s racing we Had One Time with 5, Tiburon with 9, Rhyme N Reason with 13 and the rest of the fleet very close behind.

On Sunday the fleet knew what they had to do, but what a difference a day makes, the wind was very light and shifty and Tiburon, One Times’s closest competitor just never hit their stride. They were unable to put any pressure on One Time. Tiburon took a fifth on the first race of the day and One Time countered with another bullet. Ouch! That race really seemed to take the air out of the Tiburon crew. However, the Rhyme N Reason crew stepped up and sailed past Tiburon for second place in the regatta. The final order was One Time, Rhyme N Reason and Tiburon.

I can’t say enough about how well One Time sailed, they were fast in good breeze and the light stuff as well, dominating both days of the regatta . Well done!

I personally want to thank all the competitors that came out. We had 8 boats out, how cool was that! I especially appreciate the “out of town” boats that came out. Noah Farrell (Got Wind), Scott and Christina Holcomb (Calamazoo), and of course all the way from Annapolis Charlie Husar (Discovery/Chicken Little). You guys made all the difference in the world. I really can’t thank you enough!
